LAUNCH OF DISTRIBUTION OF 2022 PLANTING FOR EXPORT AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT (PERD) The Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly on Thursday, 20th April 2022 formally launched the distribution of Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) seedlings for planting this rainy season. The ceremony attracted farmers from Whindo, Assakae, Adientem, Mpatado, Apremdo, and Kwesimintsim communities. A total of 55 farmers and Eight extension officers were present at the launching ceremony. On behalf of the Municipal Chief Executive of Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly, Hon. Kojo Acquah, the Director of Agriculture, Mr. John Kwamina Gyimah performed the launching ceremony. Mr. Gyimah welcomed the participants to the launch with an opening remark. He told the farmers that a total of 10,000 each of Oil palm and Coconut seedlings were raised in 2020 and distributed to farmers in the 2021 farming season to cover a total of 320 acres of land which benefitted a total of 204 farmers. He added that in 2021, the Municipal Assembly raised additional 12,000 Oil palm and 5,000 Coconut seedlings for distribution to farmers in the 2022 farming season which would cover a total of 270 acres of farmland and would benefit a total of 200 farmers. He advised farmers to take good care of the seedlings they are about to receive from the Municipal Assembly since the assembly had spent a lot of funds on raising the seedlings.Mr. Gyimah further reiterated that this initiative was taken to ensure improved yield in both crops, increased income, and finally improved living standards among the people in the Municipality. He added that Extension officers in the various operational areas in the Municipality were also present to offer technical support to the farmers to ensure the success of the program in the municipality and the country at large.
