On the 24th of November, 2023 the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly celebrated the Farmers Day at Apremdo park. The event was attended by the Chiefs and Elders, Queen mothers, The Presiding Member, and Farmers from various communities within the Municipal. Other dignitaries such as the Hon. Municipal Chief Executive, the Member of Parliament for Effia Constituency as well as EKMA traditional council representatives.
The Chairman for the occasion, Nana Egya Kwamina XI, in his address thanked the Municipal Chief Executive and his entourage for organizing the event in the Apremdo community and advocated that more should be done to help the farmers increase their capacity and improve livelihoods.
The Hon. Chief Executive highlighted some major achievements of farmers in the Municipal, especially in the era of aquaculture, and emphasized the need for farmers to be smart and innovative with our food production systems. He further admonished for more of the youth to venture into agriculture.
The climax of the celebration was the presentation of the awards to deserving farmers. In all, four (4) farmers and one (1) staff were awarded with befitting items as their prizes.
The Overall Municipal Best Farmer was awarded to Stephen Kwame Eshun, a fifty-five (55) year-old farmer at Whindo Community. Among the items he received were a certificate, 1 Rosette, 5 Wellington boots, 3 bags of fertilizer, 1 Tricycle (Aboboyaa), 6 bottles of weedicides, 6 bottles of pesticides, 5 cutlasses, and 1 knapsack sprayer.
