GREEN GHANA DAY 2024 AT EFFIA KWESIMINTSIM MUNICIPALITY
Introduction
Ghana has been losing rainforest at an alarming rate in recent years, but the government of Ghana is taking steps to change all that, hence the introduction of the Green Ghana Day Project.
The impacts of climate change are beginning to manifest on the entire globe, particularly in developing countries that are relatively vulnerable. Unless mechanisms are carefully and systematically put in place to ensure resilience in development and reduce vulnerability, climate change may pose serious challenges to national development.
The Green Ghana Day project is part of an aggressive national afforestation/reforestation program to restore the lost forest cover of Ghana and to contribute to the global effort to mitigate climate change.
Green Ghana Day has become a yearly exercise, and this initiative seeks to create enhanced awareness on the necessity for collective action towards the restoration of degraded landscapes in the country, mitigate watersheds, and beautify our communities and environment.
The national target for this year’s Green Ghana Day was to plant 10 million trees, which was slated for Friday, June 7th, 2024, across the country.
Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly commemorated this year’s Green Ghana Day with NADMO as the lead organization in embarking on the exercise across the municipality on Friday, 7th June, 2024.
The ceremonial ground for this year’s exercise was the road from housing to Nana Prempong school stretch. The Assistance Municipal Coordinating Director, all departmental heads, and some staff of EKMA joined in the execution of this exercise.
