The Green Ghana Day project is part of an aggressive national afforestation/reforestation program to restore the lost forest cover of Ghana and to contribute to the global effort to mitigate climate change.
Green Ghana Day has become a yearly exercise and this initiative seeks to create enhanced awareness of the necessity for collective action towards restoration of degraded landscape in the country, mitigating watersheds, and beautifying our communities and environment.
The national target for this year’s Green Ghana Day was to plant 10 million trees which was slated on Friday, June 9th, 2023 across the country.
Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly commemorated this year’s Green Ghana Day with NADMO as the lead organization in embarking on the exercise across the municipality on Friday,9th June 2023. The planting exercise started from 2nd June to 9th June 2023.
The ceremonial ground for this year’s exercise was the newly constructed Assakae -Whindo road stretch (shoulders of the road). The Municipal Chief Executive, Municipal Coordinating Director, all Departmental Heads, and staff of EKMA joined in the execution of this exercise. Staff of NADMO were deployed to CDH road (stretch from Wamco to Ekutufum) to plant seedlings. The total quantity of seedlings planted was two thousand five hundred and forty-eight (2548).
