EKMA COMMEMORATES CHILD LABOUR DAY

 

World Day Against Labour was first launched in 2002 to raise awareness and activism to prevent child labor and it is observed by the United Nations (UN) on the 12th of June of every year. The theme for this year’s celebration is “Protecting Children against Child Labour, now more than ever ” with the national theme: Intensify Action Against Child Labour, do it now, do it fast.

Acting on a directive from the Ministry of Employment and Labor Relations, MMDAs were to commemorate this day with a host of activities including;

i. Citizenship week celebration in collaboration with NCCE

ii. Route march to campaign against Child Labor

iii. Film Show

iv. Media engagement on radio and TV stations

v. Community engagement

vi. Civic messages

Learners and Teachers from Nana Brempong Yaw III, Effia Methodist JHS, Rev. Cobbah Yalley JHS, Rev. Dunwell JHS, and Rev. Grant JHS, as well as staff of the Social Welfare and Community Development and the Municipal Guards, participated in this route march. The Learners were holding placards bearing statements like, “Say No to Child Labor, Child Labor disrupts our Education, the hours of 8 pm to 6 am is night work and children are not supposed to work at that time” amongst others to draw the attention of the people on child labor and its effects.
